About Me

I have been keeping Australian native stingless bees for more than 20 years. I transferred my first hive from a cut down tree into a wooden box in 1985. Now (2008) I keep over 250 hives obtained through rescuing threatened wild hives and splitting existing hives.

Most of my hives are of the species Trigona carbonaria and I keep them around southeast Queensland. I continue to develop new hive designs and techniques that allow better splitting and extraction of sugarbag and wax.

I am an entomologist by profession, and although my paid work is in another area, I publish work on native bees. See here for a list of my bee publications.
